“... the M3 E36 preserved the fire that ignited its legendary predecessor and pioneer, and at the same time found its own identity on new paths.” –BMW “M” Magazine, August 2020

The BMW M Magazine article cited above called the E36 M3 “a wolf in sheep's clothing,” and explained: “Visually, the BMW M3 E36 showed its restrained side from the very beginning. Those who are not familiar with the details of the top model of the E36 series may not even be able to see the sheer power hidden under its straight-line body. However, the aerodynamically elaborate M side mirrors, which measurably reduce air resistance, are distinguishing features. In addition to this, there were other aprons at the front and rear, as well as the special 17-inch wheels. BMW M also lowered the chassis of the high-performance 3-Series by a good three centimeters.”

Among BMW enthusiasts, finding a well maintained E36 that hasn't been subjected to track use or too-aggressive driving is something of a challenge. The 1995 Avus Blue M3 offered here proves that, if one looks hard enough, excellent examples of this fabled sports sedan can still be found.

Originally a Texas car, five owners have lavished care and comprehensive maintenance on this E36. Now at 127,600 miles, or on average, just over 5,000 miles per year, it qualifies as a low-mileage example over its 25-year life. Not a single accident mars the Carfax report, which suggests all owners were adults who knew they were behind the wheel of a future classic BMW. A close look at the car's remarkable, near-new condition tells the story.

The Avus blue exterior paint shows excellent gloss across the entire car. The lower front “splitter”-type spoiler bears no scars or damage from careless parking. There are only very minor stone chips on the leading edges of the hood and front valance. The car has not been repainted. Lighting lenses and cabin glass are free of cracks or damage. The highly desirable 17-inch “Style 22” BMW Motorsport wheels (mounted with BFG G-Force performance tires) are free of curb rash or blemishes. The trademark “M3” rear badge retains its bright BMW Motorsport tri-color stripes.

Inside, those same tri-color stripes tastefully adorn each of the four seats as well as the leather shift boot for the 5-speed transmission, and the shifter knob. The silver leather is free of damage or excessive wear indications, even on the well bolstered front seatbacks. The dash is un-cracked. The two-tone door trim—charcoal with silver (very light gray) inserts—is stylish even 25 years later. The un-scared M3-branded door-sill trim is another indication that the car's owners insisted that “step-over” meant just that. Gray carpeting is protected with BMW embroidered carpet mats.

The “BMW M-Power”-identified, 3-liter inline six-cylinder engine is the centerpiece in a clean and complete engine bay. Motor Trend noted: “For '95, the M3 coupe used a 3.0-liter 24-valve DOHC inline-six-cylinder engine. This sonorous, rev-happy powerplant made 240 horses at 6000 rpm, with max torque coming in at 225 lb-ft at 4250.” The car's chassis shows no damage and only minor surface rust on some un-coated components.

As another indication of the care, this M3 has received, all of the following were added within the last 4,000 miles: Napa Premium Rotors/HAWK HPF pads/ECS braided steel brake lines/Fortune Auto 4-way adjustable suspension/Active Autowerks rear strut brace/OEM control arms/DINAN exhaust/DINAN ECU tune (chip)/AFE cold air intake/clutch-fan delete with manual electric fan/UUC underdrive pulleys/Stuart water pump/serpentine belt/serpentine-belt tensioner/valve cover gasket/spark plugs/UUC front and rear sway bars/BFG G-Force tires/european steering wheel/ZHP weighted shift knob/MB Quartz sound with amplifiers/suede headliner.

The condition of this 1995 BMW (E36) M3 is faithfully presented from every angle (including from below) in the more than 175 high-definition photographs and the short walk-around-and-startup video available at the GarageKeptMotors site. That said, we always encourage in-person, up-close inspections by interested parties at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We ask only that advance appointments be made by phone or email so that we can devote our full attention to our visitors and this beautiful Avus blue M3.

“An M3 will deliver years of spirited driving....” so said Motor Trend back in February 2003. One need look no further than this '95 E36 to realize how absolutely true that statement is.
