It's not often that an all original Black Plate California car like this Polara comes up for sale. In 1984 our client purchased the car from the original owner - an older woman. At first glance, this 2 door hardtop has a simple design, but the more you examine the car the more details begin to surface. Vertical strakes in the grille, horizontal chrome trim down the sides of the car, an interesting roof line/c-pillar, and a row of square tail lights set in a brushed metal panel are just some of the interesting design details on this car. The original paint is a bit faded after all the years gone by since it was first applied. Being in the warm California sun for the first 20 years of this vehicle's life probably didn't help either. The black vinyl top is in very good condition given its age, as well as all the trim and brightwork on the exterior.

An absence of a gear lever is a surprise to those who have not driven, or are not familiar with Polaras of this vintage. Slide behind the steering wheel onto the black vinyl trimmed bench seat, and you have a perfect view of the neat dashboard. A sweeping speedometer and a few other gauges are surrounded by silver trim. Just to the left of the temperature gauge are the 5 buttons that control the transmission. Not the first push button gear selector in a car, and we're sure it won't be the last - we think it's kind of handy to just push a button to select gears. The rest of the interior is in amazing condition considering it is 55 years old.

Under the hood is a 383ci V8 mated to an Automatic transmission that was rated at 305 horsepower when this car rolled off the assembly line. Recently the exhaust was replaced, and the Factory Air Conditioning was converted to R134. Power steering and power drum brakes on all 4 corners are welcome additions and make this car even more enjoyable to drive.

This 55 year old all original Polara is sure to get you thinking about what was going on in the world when this car was made while cruising around. In 1964 the Beatles had just released their first album, Lyndon Johnson won the Presidential election, and Cassius Clay beat Sonny Liston for the boxing heavyweight title. While this car won't take you back in time, you can reminisce about events during the year that this special Polara rolled off the Assembly line in Los Angeles.
