“In a Toyota Prius, buying more gas allows you to travel more miles. In the Raptor, buying more gas is like buying more fun.” AutoWeek senior editor, Rory Carroll, April 2013

To the AutoWeek editors testing it at the launch, the real beauty of the 2013 Ford Raptor was its dual personality. Editor Wes Raynal described the on-road driving-experience: “The 6.2-liter V8 is a gem. More than enough power and terrific hot rod sounds -- Fits perfectly with this truck. Ditto the suspension/ride/handling. It's long travel and tuned to the soft side for serious off-roading, which means that even though driving this brute around town doesn't come near its capabilities, it rides nicely even on this humongous rubber.”

AutoWeek Road Test Editor, Jonathan Wong, praised its off-road prowess: “The coolest part of my time with the Raptor was the day I spent taking it off-road and actually utilizing its capabilities. I climbed up rock piles where the underbody skid plates came in handy.” He concluded: “The highlight of my off-road adventure had to be getting a little airborne with the Raptor as I drove out of a small pit. I think Bo and Luke Duke would be a little proud of me."

Clearly, the Raptor is a special vehicle that does multiple things very, very well. On top of that, no other truck on the road looks like, or has the presence of a Ford Raptor.

Offered here is a 2013 F150 SVT Raptor in Tuxedo Black Metallic over black leather, a slightly intimidating color statement on a vehicle suited to tackling tough terrain challenges. Manufactured at Ford's Dearborn, Michigan truck-assembly plant, it was sold new by Lake Ford Lincoln Mercury in Lewiston, Pennsylvania. Since then, the truck has traveled just under 90,000 miles (or fewer than 13,000 miles per year, below the industry annual average, qualifying it as “low mileage”) under the care of three adult owners. Its Carfax report (link provided at GarageKeptMotors.com) shows no accidents and no damage claims across its life.

All this SVT Raptor's standard and optional original equipment is detailed on its original window sticker along with documentation of dealer-maintenance events, all shown in the accompanying photo gallery.

As to overall condition, this Raptor shows no evidence of undue wear and tear, or overly aggressive driving, off-road or on. In particular, body panels (including bumper covers, fender flares, and SVT-logo air vents) are unscathed. Glass and lighting lenses are as-new. All emblems and badging are properly located and undamaged. The paint displays near-factory-fresh shine and lack of fading, swirl marks, dings, or scrapes throughout. In the same way, the 17-inch aluminum wheels and BFG All-Terrain T/A 35-inch tires are absent any signs of abuse (with only minor wear on the wheel center caps). The controls for the height-adjustable suspension (via twin Fox Shocks) almost look unused. The addition of the Diamondback rear-cargo-bed cover adds a security feature that's a real plus.

Under the hood, the 6.2-liter single overhead cam V8, capable of delivering 411 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque, is unmodified. The engine compartment and its components are clean and properly located. The truck's undercarriage is also complete and orderly, with only surface rust showing on many component surfaces.

Inside, the four-door cabin exhibits the same high level of owner care. Leather seat surfaces are without rips, tears, or even much evidence of use. Front and second row seats feature adjustable headrests; front buckets feature embroidered Raptor logos. Door sills—a good indicator of how any vehicle has been treated—are free of damage. Plastic surfaces (including on doors, dash, and console) are not worn, cracked, or scratched. Instruments are bright and clear, headliner is perfect, floors are nicely protected with heavy-duty mats front and back, and Sony audio speaker grilles show no damage. The highly regarded Ford audio interface operates as intended.

The more than 185 high-definition photographs available at the GarageKeptMotors website faithfully present the condition of this Raptor. However, nothing beats an in-person, up-close inspection. For that reason we encourage interested parties to visit our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom. We only ask that an advance appointment be made by phone or email so that we can devote our full attention to this truck and its visitors.

The windingroad dot com off-roaders-oriented website put the Raptor's overall appeal simply: “The Raptor works because it doesn't try to beat cars at their own game. It is a truck, first and foremost.” To that we would only add this for final emphasis: “An amazing truck.”
