“The SL63 AMG can easily dust most cars in a drag race… and handles tidily while still allowing top-up or top-down motoring in impressive comfort. For many buyers, that is all that matters.” Automobile Magazine “First Drive,” 4/30/2012

Automobile magazine's first-drive report (that concluded with the summary statement above), first told a more complete SL63 story, noting its upgrades from the S550: “Its all-new including a near-300 pound diet and stiffer structure as a result of extensive use of aluminum. The SL63 adds…the M157 AMG twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 developing 530 hp and 590 lb-ft…. As with the last SL63 AMG, out goes the torque converter from the seven-speed automatic, replaced with a wet clutch. The chassis upgrades include an AMG-spec ABC active-suspension setup with two settings, electromechanical constant-ratio steering, and upgraded steel brakes (with carbon ceramics offered as an option). All this comes together with a goal of raising the performance level of the SL without dramatically sacrificing the comfort of the SL550.” The magazine's road trip in the south of France left the reviewer marveling: “The growl and pops through the exhaust, especially in the sportier settings of the transmission are glorious.” And the car's “overall impressive handling” made for a sports car that is “incredibly fast and extremely capable.”

The opportunity to acquire a well-maintained AMG SL63 does not come along every day, but it comes along today in this classic black-over-tan-leather example. The three-owner (primarily Illinois and Iowa) example has just over 20,000 miles on its odometer, remarkably low for its model year. Consistent dealer-rendered maintenance has been performed throughout the car's young life, befitting an exceptional and rare automobile.

We encourage prospective purchasers to take their time perusing the more than 210 high-definition photographs taken of the car from every angle and available at the GarageKeptMotors website. Also available at our site is a startup and short walk-around video to demonstrate more of the car's features including the power folding top, and what can only be called the music of the AMG-tuned engine. (“One of the most important things for our customers is the sound.” -Tobias Moers, head of vehicle development at AMG.) Of course, an in-person inspection of this automobile at our Grand Rapids, Michigan showroom is encouraged, and can be arranged by appointment.

The overall condition of the car is exemplary. The designo® Mocha Black paint retains its showroom luster. From the AMG-specific front valance with its air dam and mesh intakes, to the carbon-fiber trunk lid and rear quad exhaust outlets, the bodywork is in exceptional condition. Chrome brightwork, emblems, glass, and lenses are all free of obvious imperfections. Optional ten-spoke AMG-branded forged wheels with staggered-width high-performance tires deliver a classic look. Under the hood, the bespoke AMG twin-turbocharged V8 engine signed by its builder is a piece of automotive artwork. The car's undercarriage shows essentially as-new with no damage, and a virtual absence of even surface rust.

Inside, luxury touches, special features, superb finishes, and legendary Mercedes build quality are all on display. The beige/brown premium leather makes for a light contrast to the dark exterior. Burled wood trim is used sparingly, but with excellent effect. Powered 9-way seats are well bolstered yet comfortable. The dashboard's gauges, vents, switchgear, even the seven-speed shifter all employ an appealing circle design statement, a subtle, satisfying connection to the famous Mercedes emblem. Every surface—down to the pristine illuminated door sills—evidences the high degree of owner care lavished on this truly fine automobile. Every feature of this SL63 is shown on the reproduction window sticker included in the gallery. The car also comes with its full range of manufacturer literature, leather keeper, and both electronic key fobs.

Car and Driver said the SL63 delivers “a mobile tsunami of torque.” To that, this example, offered at just 37% of its original cost, delivers the added “financial torque” of an excellent value. Both are head-snapping. Please call or email if interested. Thank you for looking.
