The Severe Duty F-Series Truck: An Absolute Savage.
The folks at DBL Design just didn’t think Ford made the F-550 Super Duty quite super enough. About 7 years ago, they set out to essentially convert standard issue American trucks into a true military-spec platform. They specialize in forged front axles, military internal double beadlock wheels, central tire inflation systems, and even 6×6 conversions. According to DBL, “all of these have been built and tested to provide the most affordable military platform in the world. Our severe duty F550 and F450 super single conversions can be serviced at thousands of dealerships worldwide.”
This truck is a stage 1 conversion which addresses the following components:
- Gears
- Wheels
- Tires
- Fenders
- Speed correction
- Lift kit
- Shocks
- Front axle
- Brakes
- Central tire inflation
- Warn winch
- Front bumper
Stage 1 optimizes the chassis for Super Single Wheels, which allows you to remove the stock duallys and replace them with a (big ass, strong) single wheel in both the front and rear. It vastly improves usability, particularly when there’s no pavement available–which is exactly where you want to take this behemoth. In the end, you’ve got an absolutely brutal truck, and in this case, one that’s been outfitted with a top-of-the-line purpose-built camper from Four Wheel Campers.
