The C3 Corvettes are truly iconic vehicles. During the malaise era of automotive design in the 1970's Detroit had fallen on its heels after the high performance 1960's. Maybe it was the fuel embargoes, federally mandated emission controls and safety regulations or disco music that had sucked the soul out of designers at the Big Three automakers in Detroit, but imagination and innovation had gone away from American Automakers designs. (Now that we think of it, disco music probably had a lot to do with it, definitely the disco music.) But tucked away in the Chevrolet Design Center, the Corvette Designers and Engineers were still listening to rock music! With the Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Seger, and Grand Funk Railroad cranked up to 11, they continued to put some rock and roll in the pulse of Heartbeat of America; the C3 Corvette. The Corvette had shapely curves, performance suspension and fighter jet inspired cockpit that helped continue to fly the performance flag for Chevrolet and probably inspired more midlife crisis than GM cares to admit. But despite a sagging economy and rising fuel economy and a $6000 base price the 1974 Corvette had a record sales year, out selling any previous model year.

Featured here is a sharp 1974 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe. This Corvette carries an older repaint in its original hue, Dark Green Metallic paint (42L). The finish presents with some polish swirls and a few mild chips and blemishes expected of an older cosmetic restoration; however, it presents with a nice luster. The stainless trim has been well maintained and still shines with a brilliant gleam. The flip up headlights have been serviced with new actuators and function as designed. The 15X8 Corvette Rally wheels look ageless and the stainless trim rings and “top hat” center wheel caps are in excellent condition and polished to a rich polish. These iconic factory wheels are wrapped in a set of Kelly Charger Radials. Equipped with T-Tops and optional factory luggage rack, this Corvette calls you to take a long weekend away.

The silver interior is in original condition. The carpet shows some light wear and mild stains but presents well and features a set of black vinyl floor mats embossed with the Corvette logo. The silver leather seat upholstery shows some wear put are free of any serious rips or tears and the leather is still soft and pliable. Other options include air conditioning (inop) and tilt steering column. The factory radio was upgraded with a custom fit Pioneer Super Tuner AM/FM Stereo Cassette player, custom designed to fit specifically in the Corvette. An Optimus high power amplifier, pushes the tunes from the Mid-America Corvette Designs high fidelity speaker system, featuring bass, mid-range and tweeter speakers to help drive the Aerosmith tunes on your rides.

Under the hood is unrestored but well maintained. The engine compartment is filled with the 250HP L82 350CID V8 with 4BBL engine that has had the EGR valve, fuel pump and radiator replaced. Power is transferred through a GM Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission to the independent rear suspension equipped with limited slip differential.

The underbody and suspension are unrestored but have been well maintained. The frame and underbody were treated to an older light undercoating and there are no indications of any rust through or corrosion damage on the frame. The power steering slave cylinder was replaced along with the steering rag joint. The brake master cylinder and related brake lines, proportioning valve, and emergency cable brake cables were replaced, and a new rear leaf spring was installed. This Chevrolet features that characteristic Corvette rumble through a stock dual exhaust and mufflers.
