The Ambassador is a stately name for this sophisticated top of the line offering from American Motors. 1960 was a great year for American Motors with a number of the vehicles in their lineup selling well, and competing for market share from the other big manufacturers. A name like “Rambler Ambassador” is an interesting mix between the stately sounding 'Ambassador' portion and the 'Rambler' name, which may give the idea of a person who is wandering aimlessly. Regardless of the name of the car, this Rambler is quite a swell package as it came from the factory. This particular car has a bunch of great features that have been tastefully added. There is more than meets the eye on this car, so take a look at it closely, we're sure you'll appreciate a now obscure car that is great fun to cruise in. The vehicle you see here is a 1960 AMC Rambler Ambassador Cross Country finished in light Tan over a custom Tan interior, and currently showing 92,161 miles on the mechanical odometer.

First we must urge you to take a very close look at the pictures of this car. At first glance, it looks as though it is a Tan Rambler Wagon that has some aftermarket wheels, and tinted windows. However, Pearl Metallic paint has been added to the exterior which is very similar in color to the factory tan paint that the car was finished in when it rolled off the assembly line. Subtle pinstriping which is brown and teal has been added to the exterior, and is another hint that this car has some other custom touches. The exterior is in beautiful condition with all trim being present as it should be. The trim and chrome shows a little age in some places, but having all the trim present on an obscure car like this one, right down to the individual 'A-M-B-A-S-S-A-D-O-R' letters on the tailgate is impressive. As we mentioned before, a set of aftermarket alloy 15” wheels were added for some more style points. The car has a nice stance, and the slight bend in the roof over the rear side windows adds to the unique styling.

A well appointed and executed interior hangs on to that bit of nostalgia that is automobile interiors of the late '50's to the mid '60's. Two and sometimes three tone color schemes, chrome door handles and window cranks, thick carpeting, and dashboards featuring chrome knobs, buttons, and sweeping speedometers. This Ambassador features all those great things along with other details like the pushbutton transmission selector, WeatherEye heating and ventilation system, a stylish square analog clock, and a few AutoMeter auxiliary gauges. This car would have left the factory with a large bench seat for front seat passengers, however, a pair of reupholstered late model vehicle seats take the place of the bench.

A car like this one should sound nice too, right? Fortunately, this car makes a nice sound thanks to the 327ci V8 under the hood. The engine is nestled in a tidy engine bay that features a few chrome dress-up parts, and orange painted valve covers, heads, and engine block. The factory light Tan paint color is visible in the engine bay, which shows that the exterior paint isn't too much of a departure from the factory finish. That is until the car is parked in the sunlight, which is when the color really pops. The underside of the car looks to be highly original, and doesn't have any special features to speak of, other than the 'Pro-Flo' mufflers.

Sliding behind the wheel of this Ambassador gave us an instant feeling of cool. Gripping the custom steering wheel as you roll down the road is a special feeling, especially knowing that there are not many Rambler Ambassadors out there in beautiful, drivable condition like this one. Add the fact that this car is tastefully customized with paint that is eye-catching and that sets it apart on the road, will have you wishing for endless amounts of perfect summer days so you can cruise. Sound like a great scenario? The first step is making room for this special car in your garage! Please call if interested, or e-mail with specific questions. Thanks for looking.
