What started out as a fun, small roadster in the form of the Z3, became a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing in the form of the Z3 M. The Z3's were fairly simple in concept compared to other BMW's in showrooms at the time. The Z3 is a nimble car that could carve through curves with a responsive inline-6 engine, and manual transmission. When the Z3 M hit the market with its deep dish rear wheels, more aggressive front bumper treatment, and four polished exhaust tips peeking out from the rear bumper, the car made a strong statement that BMW could produce yet another impressive performance car to fit in with the other M models. A 3.2 Liter inline-6 that pumped out 315 horsepower and used 6 individual throttle bodies could propel the car from a standstill to 60 mph in about 5 seconds flat, and a quarter mile time in the low 13 second range. Very impressive performance at the time and still impressive today by comparison. The vehicle you see here is a 2000 BMW Z3 M Roadster finished in Imola Red over a black interior, and showing approximately 57,067 miles on the digital odometer.

“S52 engine” is the phrase that gets enthusiast's attention, and really makes this Z3 M desirable. It's the engine that was also found in the M3 cars which shared BMW showrooms with the Z3 models for a few years. Six individual throttle bodies could be found if the intake manifold was taken off. Individual throttle bodies made the engine responsive, and produced a great intake noise. The Z3 M cars only came with three pedals, so those purchasing the cars had to appreciate a more connected, and involved driving experience. This car in particular shows just over 57k miles of use.

Fans of bright red sports cars will appreciate the Imola Red paint which this car is finished in. Eagle-eyed BMW fans will spot the larger flares which make up the rear quarter panels, and the deep dish 5-spoke wheels enveloped by the rear quarter panels. The body of this car in particular shows well with even gloss and color of the paint, and the body panels lining up as they should. The exterior also features stylized side vents, red/clear tail lights, clear side markers, “M” badging, and of course a canvas convertible top.

Once situated in the bolstered leather seat behind the three spoke steering wheel, it's obvious this car is built for (spirited) driving. The interior is kept simple with a gear shifter close at hand, a few auxiliary gauges in the center console, and a reminder that this is an M car on the speedometer. Heated seats and a power top are the only fancy options that the car has. This car was one of the last BMW models which had very few interior “bells and whistles”. The interior of this car is in great condition, and only shows slight fading on the carpet thanks to the sunlight hitting it while the top is down.

Top down is the way to enjoy this BMW M car and the more than 300 horsepower that it delivers. This car is built for motoring, by BMW's Motorsport division, and what a great car it is. It's guaranteed to have you grinning from ear to ear, especially when the top is down on a sunny day. Please call if interested or e-mail with specific questions. Thank you for looking.
